'Skeleton' of Mill Rise Village reveals shape of things to come
DATE: 28th July 2008
Three North Staffordshire partners are launching a new community website for Mill Rise Village, a brand new ‘extra care’ village in Newcastle-under-Lyme, to mark the completion of phase one of the build as the final steel ‘bones’ of the skeleton construction are firmly underpinned and bolted into place. With 12 months to go, work on this £15 million development is progressing in earnest as the local community waits to see the result of this regeneration project which will provide a wide range of housing for the over 55s, a state of the art health centre, community and retail facilities.
The new website www.millrisevillage.co.uk launched by Aspire Housing, NHS North Staffordshire and Prima 200 will keep local residents informed during each stage of the build. Key information includes details of the 60 extra care apartments available for the over 55s and the ownership options available, what day-to-day village life has to offer, the communal facilities available and the purpose built health care facilities which will host physiotherapy, chiropody, podiatry and a range of community nursing services as well as NHS dentistry. The website will be kept bang up-to-date with the latest news stories, including progress on street naming and minutes from the Friends of Mill Rise regular meetings.
Caroline Simpson, director of business development at Aspire Housing, says: "The Mill Rise website will keep visitors up-to-date with all of the latest developments and services that will be available to them. The website is just part of a range of information to keep local people and those involved in making the scheme happen up to speed and informed. We also have the Friends of Mill Rise group, patient information posters and a newsletter for local residents close to the construction area.
She continues: "We look forward to showcasing the apartments to prospective buyers shortly, with the launch of our sales brochure."
NHS North Staffordshire chairman, Andrew Millward says: “This new state of the art health care facility represents a significant investment in local health care by NHS North Staffordshire. Designed as a base for the three local GP practices in Knutton and Cross Heath, and to host the services currently provided from Knutton Clinic, this new development will provide a centre of excellence for local health care.”
Prima 200’s chief executive Ann Pursey says: “As we are responsible for developing the new facility, it is extremely exciting and rewarding to reach this stage in the project. The website will allow the community to see progress on the site over the coming weeks and to keep up-to-date with all the nitty gritty details of the build. The website will bring this project to life for people who are interested in seeing the building develop. With a completion target of summer 2009 it won’t be long before Newcastle has a brand new ‘extra care’ village and healthcare facility, one which we hope it will be proud of.”
