Friends of Mill Rise / Meeting Dates

Friends of Mill Rise meeting held on Tuesday 10th February 2009

Show Apartment
The show apartment has been delayed because the scaffolding has not been removed due to the bad weather and it needs to be removed before viewings can take place because of health and safety.

Committee
Mrs Beswick has volunteered to join the committee.

Coalfields Regeneration Grant
A decision is expected later this month

Jan Butterworth attended the meeting and explained about the services and facilities that will be available at the Health Centre.

Doctors
Dr Hussain, Dr Franklin and Dr Shah - each will have their own reception area.

Health are also keen to provide enhanced services within the community such as for diabetics, anti coagulation etc. The actual services are yet to be finalised.

A question was asked about whether occupants of Mill Rise could stay with their existing Doctors? It would depend on boundaries so they would need to check with their practice.

Pharmacy
There will be a pharmacy.  Mike Morrell the pharmacist could come and speak to the group about the services he provides. They include:

  • Weight loss
  • Collection/delivery service
  • Emergency prescription service if needed

Dentist
There will not be a dental practice now at Mill Rise, by removing the dental practice more services can be provided on site. Planning permission has been applied for by a good dental practice which will provide access to high quality dentistry in the area.

Gym
There is a gym with a treadmill, bike, wall bars, weights and rehab stairs.

Recruitment Event
A joint recruitment event was held with Accord at the end of January at Castletown Grange. There was a huge turnout. There have been 25 applications for the Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator, interviews will be held on the 18th February.  Accord is recruiting for a Registered Care Manager, Domiciliary Care Staff Cleaning and Catering staff.  All will have enhanced CRB checks.

Medical Questionnaires
These have recently been sent out to the rental applicants, please return them asap.

Carers Event
There will be a Carers Event on Tuesday 7th April at Bradwell Lodge Community Centre, Bradwell Lane, Porthill, Newcastle, ST5 8PS, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. If you care for someone and want to know what is available to help, you may want to go along. There will be information on Direct Payments, Housing Needs, Fire Safety, Transport, and Age Concern.

Shared ownership – The flats have been revalued and the prices remain the same.

I Health
Alison Mlot was unable to attend the meeting but Suzie and Mike have visited the I Flat in Chesterton and seen some of the equipment that is demonstrated there. There are door entry and exit systems, blood pressure monitors that can send readings electronically to your Doctor, flood detectors for taps and other monitoring equipment.  Some of the equipment may be demonstrated at Mill Rise.

Internal design company
The internal design company have been appointed for the internal fit out at Mill Rise. We cannot name them as yet as under OJEU rules there is a 10 day cooling off period. We are very happy with the company that have been appointed. Mike helped with the selection process. The mood boards will be brought to the next meeting which will show some of the colours and finishes for the floors, walls and soft furnishings.

Post meeting note: The interior design company is Stanbridge Interiors.

Bus Service
There is a bus service which First Bus will review 6 months after Mill Rise opens. A bus information timetable is attached.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 31st March at
2.30 p.m. at Earls Court Sheltered Housing Scheme in Miller Street in Newcastle.

Please ring Gina Bennett on 635200 if you would like to attend as numbers have to be limited because of health and safety.
